The North Pole Experience is an immersive Christmas attraction and Santa’s Grotto experience located in Liverpool, launched in 2024. During its pre-launch development phase, the team required a compelling way to generate excitement, build awareness and visually communicate the concept of the experience before the physical venue, cast and sets were fully completed.
To achieve this, they commissioned Surfr Media to develop a character-led animated film that would bring the story of the North Pole Experience to life. The objective was to create a strong visual identity for the attraction and help audiences understand the magical journey visitors would take, even before the doors officially opened.
Our creative team designed a bespoke set of animated characters inspired by traditional Christmas nutcrackers, reimagined with a modern twist. Each character was carefully developed with distinct personality, costume design and visual styling that reflected their real-life counterparts within the attraction. This approach helped establish an immediate emotional connection with audiences while reinforcing the festive storytelling at the heart of the experience.
The animation became a key marketing asset during the build-up to launch, allowing the North Pole Experience to promote the attraction effectively across digital platforms while construction was still underway. By combining character design, animation production and narrative storytelling, the project provided a powerful pre-visualisation tool that generated excitement and anticipation ahead of opening.
