A fresh pour of brand storytelling

As part of their hugely popular brewery tour experience, Hawkshead Brewery wanted to refresh the introductory film shown to visitors before they begin their journey through the brewery. The original video had served the brand well for several years, but the team were looking for a more modern, cinematic approach that better reflected both the quality of the brewery and the personality behind it.

The new production was designed not only to inform visitors about the history of the brewery, the local Lake District landscape and the brewing process itself, but to create a genuine connection with the audience from the very first frame. Rather than relying solely on a traditional voiceover, we introduced a presenter-led format to bring warmth, authenticity and personality to the storytelling. With Hawkshead Brewery deeply rooted in Cumbria, it felt only right to feature someone local – our very own Kendalian Rachel Airey; Surfr founder, photographer, camera operator and all-round brilliant host.

To capture the atmosphere and energy of the brand, we combined cinematic aerial footage of the surrounding Lake District with carefully crafted gimbal movement, detailed brewing shots and dynamic editing techniques including speed ramping, slow motion and 3D tracked typography. The result was a modern visitor experience film that balanced heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary visual storytelling.

The final film showcased Surfr Media’s approach to commercial video production and hospitality storytelling. The content was also strategically repurposed across multiple platforms to maximise value and longevity. Alongside the main venue version shown at brewery-owned locations, we created shorter social media edits for digital marketing, mid-length versions for presentations and conferences, and additional content to support proposals and wider brand communications. The final production became more than just a tour introduction – it evolved into a versatile storytelling asset that helped Hawkshead Brewery communicate its identity, people and passion across every audience touchpoint.
