Diversity, inclusion and accessibility

The most effective storytelling reflects the world around us.

At Surfr Media, we believe diversity, inclusion and accessibility should never be treated as an afterthought. They should be considered from the very beginning of every project, influencing how stories are told, how people are represented and how audiences engage with content.

Over the years, we have worked with organisations across healthcare, education, tourism and accessibility sectors to create video production, photography, animation and graphic design that is inclusive, representative and accessible to diverse audiences.

We don't consider this a specialist service that we have recently added to our offering. It is an approach that has become embedded within the way we think, create and communicate.

Why inclusion matters

People connect with content when they recognise themselves, their experiences and their communities within it.

Modern audiences are diverse, and the organisations that connect most effectively with those audiences are the ones that embrace representation, accessibility and inclusion in meaningful ways.

Whether producing a video campaign, designing a marketing brochure, creating photography or developing digital content, inclusive storytelling isn’t simply about who appears in front of the camera. It’s about creating environments, experiences and communications where everyone feels welcome. This content doesn’t simply reach more people. It helps organisations build trust, strengthen engagement and create deeper connections with their audiences.

Accessibility in action

Accessibility is about far more than compliance. It is about removing barriers and helping people make informed decisions, participate fully and feel represented.

Since 2018, our work with AccessAble has provided a unique opportunity to create content that actively supports disabled people, carers and individuals with long-term health conditions.

Through brand development, website design, stop motion animation, e-learning courses, video productions, accessible designs and communication materials, we have helped AccessAble communicate important information in engaging and accessible ways.

By combining creativity with accessibility considerations, we help ensure content works for the 6.3 million people who use AccessAble without compromising visual quality or storytelling.

Creating an impact together

I’ve worked with Surfr on a number of film and photo shoots relating to access and inclusion. Accessibility is at the heart of everything this company does and I have never felt this comfortable when working on film and photo shoots before. I would not look anywhere else!

Disability Consultant, CrystalEyes

I have worked with Matt and Rachel on two different projects, and both times they have created content that was far better than I could have envisioned. They are very natural at following a brief while also adding real value to it. When working in schools, it is important to be flexible, comfortable and adaptable, and they have those qualities in huge quantities. I will probably not use any other production company moving forward, as I cannot see a better option for us. They are a truly fantastic team, producing quality work.
